To obtain a lens barrel in which thickness in the direction of an optical axis is reduced when collapsed and to provide a thinner imaging apparatus.

The lens barrel includes a plurality of lens groups and a plurality of lens frames holding the respective lens groups, and extends and retracts the lens groups by moving the lens frames. The lens barrel is designed so as to change lens intervals between the lens groups held by the lens frames.
