PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the degree of freedom in design and to improve the strength of an advance/retreat barrel, because the strength of the advance/ retreat barrel gets low when the advance/retreat barrel is provided with two notches in order to avoid interference with a motor and a gear. SOLUTION: This lens barrel is provided with the advance/retreat barrel 30 capable of advancing/retreating in an optical axis direction, a motor extended in the optical axis direction of the lens barrel and generating driving force, and a transmission gear 10 extended in the optical axis direction of the lens barrel and transmitting the driving force of the motor to the part to be driven of the lens barrel. In such a case, the motor and the gear 10 are arranged adjacently in the peripheral direction of the lens barrel, and the barrel 30 is provided with one notched part 30d for avoiding the interference with the motor and the gear 10 caused by the advance/retreat of the barrel 30.
