Abstract:

To provide an fθ lens which has superior fθ characteristics and is very advantageous in any of size reduction, price reduction and manufacture easiness, and a scanning optical device which uses the fθ lens.

The scanning optical device which reflects the light emitted by a light source 1 by a polygon mirror 3 to scan a scanned surface 5a through the fθ lens 4 is characterized by that the curved surface shapes of the optical surfaces 4a and 4b of the fθ lens are represented as Z=r1X2+r2X4+r3X6+r4X8+ r5Y2+r6Y4+r7Y6+r8Y8 and Z=(Cr2)/[1+[1-(1+k)C2r2]1/2]+α1r2+α2r4+α3r6+α4 r8+α5r10+α6r12+α7r14+α8r16 in an X, Y, Z orthogonal coordinate system which has its origin in the optical center of the lens and includes the optical axis on the Z axis.
