To provide an imaging apparatus for achieving high-speed consecutive photographing and diaphragm control.
An imaging apparatus to which an interchangeable lens is attached in a detachable manner comprises: an image pickup device for applying photoelectric conversion to an optical image formed through the interchangeable lens; a terminal for receiving signals related to types of the interchangeable lens; and a control unit which determines whether the interchangeable lens corresponds to the relative driving of a diaphragm on the basis of the signal input through the terminal. The control unit drives the diaphragm from a first position to an opening position and then from the opening position to a second position which is determined on the basis of photometric processing, when the interchangeable lens does not correspond to the relative driving of the diaphragm in consecutive photographing, and drives the diaphragm from the first position to the second position determined on the basis of photometric processing without driving the diaphragm to the opening position, when the interchangeable lens corresponds to the relative driving of the diaphragm.
