To precisely and certainly carry out levelling work of a bed for a comparatively large machine tool divided into more than two blocks in a short period of time.
An inclination of each of the blocks is detected by inclination sensors A, B, C arranged on each of the blocks 10A, 10B, 10C of the bed 10. The levelling work is automatically carried out for each of the blocks by extending and contracting automatic jacks (a) to (i) provided at more than three points for each of the blocks by a controlling means 14. Additionally, a difference of height between each of the blocks completed in levelling is detected by height comparison sensors D, E, F, G between the adjacent blocks. Thereafter, the height of the adjacent blocks is levelled by extending and contracting the automatic jacks (a) to (i) by the controlling means 14. Consequently, it is possible to automatically level all of the blocks and to adjust the height of the blocks.
