In a Li-Ni compound oxide in which a composition of a secondary particle as a core is Lix1Ni1-y1-z1-w1Coy1Mnz1Mw1O2 (wherein, 0.9x11.3, 0.1y10.3, 0.0z10.3, 0w10.1, and M is at least one kind of metals selected from Al, Fe) and an average secondary particle diameter is 5-20 m, a composition of a surface or its neighborhood is Lix2Ni1-y2-z2-w2Coy2Mnz2Mw2O2 (wherein, 0.9x21+z2, 0y20.33, 0.15z20.5, 0w20.1, and M is at least one kind of metals selected from Al, Fe, Mg, Zr and Ti), and the Li-Ni compound oxide particle powder for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery has the above compound oxide or is coated with the above compound oxide.
