To provide a lid closing structure capable of restraining a lid in the state of closing or releasing the lid responding to the temperature in a case, and also capable of early releasing the closed state of the lid even when the fall of the temperature in the case is slow, and to provide a projection type picture display device equipped with the lid closing structure.

The case 10 provided with an engagement part and supported movably by the lid 6 comprises: a lid closing member which restrains the lid in the state of closing (or releasing the lid) by moving so as to engage with an engaging part (or so as to disengage from it); a shape memory member which gives shape recovery force to the lid closing member; and an elastic body which energizes the lid closing member.
