PURPOSE: To provide a lifting hook without the need of special knowledge for setting the hook at a load receiving position.

CONSTITUTION: This lifting hook is provided with a supporting member 1 mounted with a supporting shaft 7 for supporting a hook member 5 provided with an oblong hole 6. A safety latch 11 is freely turnably supported by the hook member 5. At a raised position, the safety latch 11 holds the supporting shaft 7 at a position away from the upper end part of the oblong hole 6 by being engaged with the contact surfaces 16 and 17 of the supporting member 1. When the safety latch 11 is lowered, the supporting shaft 7 is moved into an end part and the safety latch 11 is fixed. The hook member 5 is constituted, when being lowered into contact with a load or another surface and lifted at the position, to perform a turning movement into an upside down position during which the safety latch 11 is opened and the load is released. The turning movement is caused by the relative displacement of the supporting shaft 7 and the hook member 5 inside the oblong hole 6 and the displacement of the centroid of the hook member 5.
