Abstract:
PURPOSE:To execute a parallel light arithmetic at a high speed by comparing the sum of light intensity of emitted light beams from (p) pieces of first light sources in a light source and the sum of light intensity of emitted light beams from P pieces of second light sources in (p) sets of light sources with regard to (p) sets of light sources of at least three sets of the input surface, and forming an output signal in accordance with a result of this comparison. CONSTITUTION:When a minute hologram is used a two-dimensional optical connecting element 16, light beams emitted from each light emitting part are made incident of the corresponding minute holograms, respectively, and polarized, and superposed on one set of a space light modulation element 15. In the space light modulation element 15, light intensity which is made incident on one set of upper and lower elements is compared and only the element whose light intensity is larger emits light and becomes an output. Its A, the inverse of A, B, the inverse of B, C and the inverse of C denote input signals and its inversion signal D, the inverse of D, E, and the inverse E become control signals and by values of D and E, an operation between A to C is switched to AND and OR. In such a way, since the time required for the arithmetic is determined by only a response time of a space conversion element of a differential switch and the time when light is propagated through a space, the arithmetic can be executed at a high speed.
