PURPOSE: To perform accurate dot scanning by a light beam with a simple constitution by selecting the clock of the period changed by delay according to the scanning characteristics being read out from a memory and correcting the clock for controlling light modulator.
CONSTITUTION: ROM 23 is accessed by a counter 25 which counts control clocks and a counter 31 which counts the mirror surface numbers of a rotary polyhedral mirror and the data for the optical scanning characteristics including cylindrical lens for every mirror surface are read out. The addition of these to an adder 22 and the opening of a gate circuit 26 are controlled and the delay clock train from a delay circuit 20 generating rise first after the rise of the signal synchronized to the scanning start signal outputted by the detector provided to the scanning surface selected by a latch decoder circuit 24 is corrected by the dircuit 22, whereby the light modulating clock is corrected according to the scanning characteristics through a data selector circuit 21 and circuit 26. Hence, the scanning spot light is corrected without correcting the polyhedral mirror surfaces, cylindrical lens, etc. and the dot scanning is accurately accomplished.
