Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light confinement structure that can achieve a new function, by using a photonic crystal.SOLUTION: In a photonic crystal, a plurality of columnar second lattice elements 105 having a refractive index different from that of a base part 101 is arranged in an x-axis direction with a period different from that of first lattice elements 102. The second lattice elements 105 on one row are arranged in the x-axis direction. On a plane of the base part 101 and in a y-axis direction (second direction) orthogonal to the x-axis direction, a portion where the first lattice element 102 and the second lattice element 105 are arranged in series is disposed in a light confinement region 121. At the center in an extending direction of the core 104, a part where the first lattice element 102 and the second lattice element 105 are arranged in series is disposed in the y-axis direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
