To provide a light diffusion film capable of obtaining a high-luminance image display performance due to an excellent light transmissivity while exhibiting satisfactory light diffusibility for a back light source, and to provide a method for manufacturing the light diffusion film.
The light diffusion film 1 is configured by disposing elliptical fine particles 20 into a base material film 10 so that the long diameters of the fine particles 20 are oriented in a TD direction. The elliptical fine particles 20 are formed by performing an stretch process during manufacture such that spherical fine particles are stretched in the stretch direction so as to be deformed into an elliptical shape. The base material film 10 is formed from a copolymer of (meta) alkyl ester and is subjected to the stretch process in the TD direction at a temperature equal to or higher than the Tg of the elliptical fine particles 20. Thus, the light diffusion film 1 is formed.
