In the light-emitting device, the spacer contains a spacer body formed on a dielectric, and first coating layer located on the side of a first range of the spacer body facing to a first substrate and indicating a maximum secondary electron emission coefficient of 0.8 to 1 on a voltage condition impressed on the first range, and a second coating layer located on the side of a second range of the spacer body facing to a second substrate and indicating a maximum secondary electron emission coefficient of 3 to 16 on a voltage condition impressed on the first range and the whole second range.
