To provide a light emitting device that consumes less power.
A light emitting device includes a plurality of light emitting chips C each having a substrate 80, a light emitting section 102 provided with light emitting thyristors L1, L2, L3 etc. arranged in a line on the substrate 80 and a transfer section 101 provided with transfer thyristors T1, T2, T3 etc arranged correspondingly to the light emitting thyristors L1, L2, L3 on the substrate 80. The light emitting device further includes a transfer signal generation section 120 that transmits a first transfer signal 1 and a second transfer signal 2 so as to sequentially turn on the transfer thyristors T1, T2, T3 etc. in each of the light emitting chips C, and sets an absolute value of a current which flows in a period in which a transfer thyristor T to be turned on next is turned on from off to be smaller than an absolute value of a current that flows in the transfer section 101 in a period in which either one of the transfer thyristors T is turned on from off.
