To provide a light emitting device capable of effectively using light projected on a side other than a projected face side.
A field electron emission light emitting device includes: a cathode electrode having an electron-emitting source; an anode electrode which is installed at a position opposing to the cathode electrode and has a phosphor to emit light by being excited by electrons field-emitted from the electron emission source; and a gate electrode having an opening to make the electrons emitted from the electron-emitting source pass through between the cathode electrode and the anode electrode. In the gate electrode, a surface of the anode electrode side is formed in a rugged shape to diffuse and reflect light emitted from the phosphor.
