To provide a driving method for a light emitting device by which the luminance of a light emitting element is prevented from dispersing due to the characteristics of a TFT that controls a current supplied to the light emitting element, the luminance of the light emitting element is prevented from decreasing due to deterioration in an organic luminescent layer and further a constant luminance is obtained without depending on the deterioration or the temperature change of the organic luminescent layer.
By controlling the luminance of the light emitting element not by means of a voltage to be applied to the TFT but by means of the current that flows to the TFT in a signal line drive circuit, a current that flows to the light emitting element is held to a desired value without depending on the characteristics of the TFT. Further, a voltage of inverted bias is applied to the light emitting element every predetermined period. Since a multiplier effect is given by the two configurations described above, it is possible to prevent the luminance from decreasing due to the deterioration in the organic luminescent layer, and further, it is possible to maintain the current that flows to the light emitting element to the desired value without depending on the characteristics of the TFT.
