To record a rewritable specified color image on a recording medium by processing a signal corresponding to the color image in accordance with characteristics of the recording medium.
A light volume of a laser light from a light source 11 is controlled by a means 12 for controlling the amount of irradiation, and a position of irradiation with the laser light on the recording medium 15 is controlled by a means 13 for controlling the position of irradiation to scan the recording medium 15. A picture image memory means 19 stores light volume information acquired from a corresponding relation between the light volume irradiated and a color in accordance with it by referring to a color setting storing means 18 based on color information on every unit of the image data to be recorded saved in an image data saving means 17. In addition, the picture image memory means 19 stores positional information on every unit of the image data to be recorded saved in an image data saving means 17. The positional information stored in the picture image memory means 19 and the light volume information are respectively outputted to the means 13 for controlling the position of irradiation and the means 12 for controlling the amount of irradiation by a controlling means 16, to control each of the movements.
