This light position detector 10 comprises a light generating means 20 for outputting a line of light for position detection, a means for causing the line of light 12 for position detection outputted by the generating means 20 to pass through a position detection area while changing its direction in mid course and then focusing the line of light on a focusing part 30, a light separation means 50 provided with at least one light separation point BP on the course of the line of light passing through the detection area 50 for separating the line of light entering a light separation point BP into a first ray L1 focused on the focusing part and a second ray L2 caused to again pass through the detection area, and a light quantity detection means 32 for detecting the quantity of light focused on the focusing part 30.
