To provide a light source device capable of being mounted on a three-plate type projection type display device which uses a phosphor as a light source.
A semiconductor laser 1 emits excitation light. A reflection type phosphor assembly 42 receives the excitation light emitted from the semiconductor laser 1, and emits fluorescence of a predetermined color. A dichroic mirror 24 reflects any one of the incident excitation light and fluorescence thereon and reflects the other thereon. A heat-dissipating portion 9 dissipates heat generated by the reflection type phosphor assembly. A movement mechanism moves the reflection type phosphor assembly 42 in a direction parallel to the plane of the reflection type phosphor assembly 42. An afocal optical system has at least one positive optical member 6 and one negative optical member 5 which convert the size of the luminous flux of white light emitted from the reflection type phosphor assembly 42.
