To provide a light source device, an illumination device, a monitor device, an image display device, and a projector capable of reducing generation of scintillation.
The light source device includes a light reflecting element 7 that varies a propagation direction of a laser beam within a prescribed angle range with respect to the emission direction of the laser beam, and thereby, the propagation direction of the laser beam emitting from the laser light source 6 can be varied with time. By varying the propagation direction of the laser beam with time, the scattering direction of the laser beam can be varied with time, which shifts positions of interference fringes by the scattered light and equalizes the interference fringes. The obtained light source device 4 can reduce the generation of scintillation.
