To protect a liquid crystal panel and its vicinity against dust, to prevent the liquid crystal panel from being heated, and to appropriately adjust the attitude of the liquid crystal panel.
A hermetic chamber 52 which substantially shields an optical path A2→A3→A4, from an integrator lens 65 to the light incident/exit faces of reflection type liquid crystal panels 91A, 91B, and 91C, against outside air is formed of the light incident/exit faces of the liquid crystal panels 91A, 91B, and 91C supported by attitude adjustment mechanisms 9A, 9B, and 9C, respectively, the internal faces of two unit cases, and the integrator lens 65. Fins opposite the light incident/exit faces of the liquid crystal panels 91A, 91B, and 91C are disposed outside the hermetic chamber 52. An elastic light-shield member is disposed in a joint between the two unit cases. The attitude adjustment mechanisms 9A, 9B, and 9c supporting the liquid crystal panels 91A, 91B, and 91C have six-degree-of-freedom.
