To provide a lighting system having visual beauty and emphasized in designability and simplicity to adjust light quantity by a principle of nature, while in conventional technic as light quantity is changed electrically and mechanically in time, such method is lacking in designability, thereby a user can not enjoy seeing an optical beauty and a light quantity variation mechanism directly.

Light quantity is adjusted by blocking the light so as to change light quantity using grouping of sand which changes its profile when the sand flows. A lighting system in which the light quantity is changed in time using material, i.e. sand, has reliability and designability by using the principle of a sandglass utilizing gravity. The light volume changes according to the amount of sand accumulation by incorporating the lighting system in the sandglass. A LED or the like which has small size, various colors and high designability is used as a light source inserted into a recess portion on the bottom surface and an upper part from outside. A transparent portion receiving the sand of the sandglass is made by means of glass technology. The sand as material reflects the light diffusely since it is glassy fine sand, and improves the efficiency of lighting and designability in cooperation with the LED.
