PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device and a display device that make a light emitting element radiate heat with high efficiency.SOLUTION: A lighting device is provided with: a light emitting element which has a connection surface and is provided with a terminal on the connection surface; a holding member in which the light emitting element is contained; a wiring board which is arranged at a distance from the connection surface of the light emitting element and is electrically connected to the terminal; and a heat sink which has an adjacent part that is adjacent to the connection surface of the light emitting element.
