PURPOSE: To light a display part brightly and evenly and to make an instrument case thin, by guiding the light rays from a lamp through a light guiding part, which is provided at one end of a character plate, reflecting the light rays by a colored reflecting layer, thereby lighting the character plate.
CONSTITUTION: Under the solar light rays, a display part 8 of a character plate 1 can be recognized as a white color, and the part other than the display part 8 can be recognized as a black color. When a lamp 2 is turned ON, the light rays of the lamp 2 are guided into the character plate 1 by a tapered end surface, which forms a light introducing part of the character plate 1. The light rays are refracted, reflected, and advanced in the transparent character plate 1. The light rays are further reflected by a white colored reflecting layer 3 and illuminate the display part 8 brightly and evenly. The brightness of the display part 8 can be changed by attaching a color filter to the lamp 2 and changing the color.
