To prevent luminance of an emission face in the vicinity of a light source from becoming high partially and prevent generation of unevenness in brightness.
A deflection structure is provided on a part of an emission face of a light guide plate for deflecting the light reaching the emission face nearly perpendicularly to a direction parallel with the emission face. Practically, light emission can be carried out from the deflection structure at an angle of 30 degrees or less against the emission face. The deflection structure is provided in an outer circumferential region on an incident face side out of outer circumferential regions than an effective light emission area of the light guide plate. As a result, hot spots generated on the emission face in the vicinity of the light incident face become difficult for an observer to visually recognize, and an liquid crystal display device having no brightness unevenness can be realized.
