To provide a lighting device 11 provided with an excessive discharge prevention function of a battery, without upsizing of a device, and preventing occurrence of failure of excessive discharge prevention circuit 56 and malfunction caused by thermal effects.
A semiconductor light-emitting device 29 and a lighting circuit 57 for lighting the semiconductor device by battery are provided inside a housing 16. Inside a handle 17 projecting from the housing 16, the excessive discharge protection circuit 56 is arranged to shut down the lighting circuit 57 by detecting deterioration of battery voltage. By separately locating the lighting circuit 57 and the excessive discharge prevention circuit 56, the battery excessive discharge prevention function is equipped without making the lighting device 11 upsized. An occurrence of the failure of excessive discharge prevention circuit 56 and a malfunction by thermal effects are prevented by locating the excessive discharge prevention circuit 56 separately from the semiconductor light-emitting device 29 and the lighting circuit 57 that radiate heat.
