To reduce the thickness of a light source unit in a direct lighting system.
The lighting system, which is a so-called direction lighting system, includes a light source unit including a circuit board and a plurality of light sources electrically connected to the circuit board. Particularly, in the light source unit, each light source is placed in the circuit board so that at least part of the light source is located in a thickness directional part of the circuit board or in the inner part of the circuit board. Concretely, each light source is placed in the circuit board with at least part of a base material constituting each light source being fitted into a through-hole provided in the circuit board. Therefore, at least part of each light source partially overlaps the thickness directional part of the circuit board or the inner part of the circuit board. According to this, the thickness of the light source unit can be reduced, compared with a light source unit having the light sources disposed on the circuit board. Consequently, this is contributable to thinning of a light source unit and further thinning of a lighting system.
