Abstract:

To provide a lighting system capable of effectively utilizing light advancing in a direction other than the direction of an illumination object from a diffractive optical element, stopping the emission of light at the occurrence of an abnormality of a light source, and supplying light having stable luminous energy, and a projector and a monitor device using the lighting system.

This lighting system includes: the light source 12R emitting light; the diffractive optical element 13R diffracting the light from the light source 12R, and advancing the diffracted light to a lighting object; and a shade 21 arranged to be able to shade the light from the light source 12R. The shade 21 shades at least a part of the light from the light source 12R according to a detection result by a light detection part 23 detecting the light advancing in a direction other than the direction of the lighting object from the diffractive optical element 13R.
