Abstract:
To provide a lighting unit and a projector having high efficiency for light utilization.SOLUTION: The present invention comprises: a light source that emits light in a first wavelength range; a wavelength conversion element that converts the light in the first wavelength range into light in a second wavelength range; an optical element that reflects the light in the first wavelength range toward the wavelength conversion element and transmits the light in the second wavelength range; and an illumination optical system that is arranged on the opposite side of the wavelength conversion element with respect to the optical element and on which the light emitted from the wavelength conversion element is incident. The wavelength conversion element has a substrate, a reflection layer that is provided opposite to a first surface of the substrate, a wavelength conversion layer that has a second surface, is provided opposite to the reflection layer, and converts the light in the first wavelength range into the light in the second wavelength range, and a structure that is provided opposite to the second surface and includes a plurality of convex parts reflecting part of the light in the first wavelength range. The plurality of convex parts each have an inclined surface inclined with respect to the second surface. At least part of the light in the first wavelength range reflected on the inclined surface is incident on the illumination optical system without passing through the optical element.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
