To provide a lighting system which has a higher degree of freedom of layout and design in a limited space without increasing the size and weight of the system, and is superior in safety without causing the leakage of the melt of a cover when melted by a fire or the like, to the outside.
The lighting system 10 includes a casing 11 on which a light source 20 is mounted and which has a reflecting surface 12 for receiving light emitted from the light source 20 to indirectly illuminate an outside area, and the protecting cover 30 mounted on the casing 11 in the state of covering the light source 20 from the outside. Part of the casing 11 extends at least to a position overlapping with the whole area of the protecting cover 30 in the vertical direction. At a part thereof adjacent to a lowermost part 30a of the protecting cover 30, a melt receiving part 40 is provided for receiving the melt of the protecting cover 30 when melted and dropped, without causing the leakage downward.
