Abstract:
PURPOSE: To direct light from a light source to a desired pattern by deformed ellipsoids, and to disperse light in a desired pattern and to facilitate manufacture, by forming a junction between a center-deformed ellipsoid and edge- deformed ellipsoids.
CONSTITUTION: The reflective surface of a reflector 13 includes a center- deformed ellipsoid 14 and two edge-deformed ellipsoids 15, 16. The face 15 is joined to the center face 14 in a smooth continuous junction 17, and the face 16 is similarly joined to the face 14 in a smooth continuous junction 18. The face 14 is modified to include a smooth vertical bump 21 on the center of the ellipsoid and has a concave shape, and is tilted off the axis of a headlight. And besides, the faces 15, 16 are also concave faces, and are deformed from a true paraboloid, to generate a prescribed optical pattern and to make the junctions between the faces smooth and continuous. The junctions 17, 18 have clear normals and minimum radii of curvature larger than about 1.27 mm, and a flute is not formed on a front cover. Hereby, light can be dispersed in a desired pattern, and manufacture can be facilitated.
