PURPOSE: To economize the material of the non-linear resistor by making the sectional area of the non-linear resistor in parallel with the discharge gap in the direction at right angles to the direction of conduction smaller than the sectional area of the other non-linear resistor not connected in parallel with the discharge gap in the direction of conduction.
