To propose a driving method for a lightning display apparatus capable of increasing a grayscale number easily and inexpensively, without increasing the number of bits of a grayscale memory.
In the lighting apparatus 1, (2m-1) grayscale frame data fr, supplied to a controller 3, are divided by a division number D, and the D pieces of (2m-1) grayscale frame data frd are transferred to the m-bit grayscale memory 7 of an LED driver IC 5 within a transfer cycle of one frame data. Consequently, an LED of each pixel 6 is driven with the grayscale number of (2m-1) x D (except the turn-off state), when considered in a display period (transfer period) of one frame data. The grayscale number for displaying the frame data fr is increased, without increasing the number of bits of the grayscale memory 7.
