Title:
LIGHTWEIGHT DRIVE SHAFT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2818308
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a manufacturing method for a lightweight drive shaft for motor car with extrusion-work from a tubular metal blank.
CONSTITUTION: The drive shaft has the center part 11 of the thin wall and both end parts 12, 13 of the thick walls. The tubular blank is inserted into a tubular die 25 and a punch 30 is inserted into the die and an extension 32 is advanced in the blank. When the punch is pushed forward, the front end part of the blank extruded from the funnel part 27 of the die is crushed inward to form the thick wall part. The punch extension is acted as a mandrel at the time of reaching the die funnel part, and the center part of the thin wall is extruded to a prescribed length. Successively, when a second blank is inserted into the die and continued to push, the extrusion of the rear end part of the first blank is completed to form the drive shaft. Both of the rear end part of the first blank and the front end part of the second blank are crushed inward until the extrusion of the first blank fully completes to form the thick wall end parts. Thereafter, this cycle is repeated.
