Title:
ON-LINE HANDWRITTEN CHARACTER RECOGNIZING DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH09231314
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To improve a recognition ratio independently of the number of strokes and writing order in the case of a low stroke character.

A tablet 1 extracts a handwritten data string and a preprocessing part 2 executes coordinate string smoothing processing. An on-line type feature extracting part 3 executes rough sorting based upon the number of strokes and executes medium sorting by comparing a vector distance dvec between partial patterns of an input character and a dictionary character with a threshold to calculate the featured value of the input character. An on-line type matching part 4 calculates a distance dBP from a character registered in an on-line type recognition dictionary 5 and the featured value of the input character and calculates a distance from the distances dvec dBP. In the case of a high stroke character, a high stroke character discriminating part 6 outputs a character code in accordance with the distance. A pattern memory conversion part 7 executes conversion into a pattern memory, a contour extracting part 8 executes contour extracting processing and an off-line type feature extracting part 9 calculates an off-line featured value. An off-line type matching part 10 executes matching between an off-line type recognition dictionary 11 and the featured value stored in the pattern memory and a low stroke character discriminating part 12 executes character recognition.
