PURPOSE: To obviate the mechanical connection between a linear encoder device and a liner synchronous motor, by integrally installing on the liner synchronous motor side a detection unit for detecting the magnetic field generated by the motor.
CONSTITUTION: A linear encoder device is integrated with a linear synchronous motor 2. The stator 23 of the linear synchronous motor 2 includes a yoke 24 that extends in the direction of the movement of a movable element 21 and constitutes a base. Permanent magnets 25 of different polarity that are alternately placed in the direction of the movement at a constant interval. Provided with coils 22, the movable element 21 is installed in such a way that it can travel with a constant gap 26 maintained between it and the permanent magnets 25. The encoder device 1 includes a detection unit 11 installed on the movable element 21 side, and the unit is positioned at the end of the movable element 21 in the direction of movement. When the linear synchronous motor 2 is driven, the movable element 21 is moved along the stator 23. While the movable element is moving, variation in magnetic field is detected and the information on the movement of the linear synchronous motor 2 is output. This obviates the mechanical connection between the linear encoder device and the linear synchronous motor.
