To provide a linear motor which readily enables compactification and cost reduction in an apparatus, which constantly exhibits a stable thrust force and is capable of precisely mounting electronic components, when it is used for an electronic component mounting head.
The linear motor 20 includes: sliders 24A, 24B which are fitted to a linear movement guide 12 and are guided along the linear movement guide 12; a magnetic yoke 46 having a recess 46A with a substantially a U-shape cross-section, the recess 46A having mutually facing two side faces on which movable magnets 16 are arranged, respectively, in such a way that the magnets on the one side face and the magnets on the another side face, respectively face and facing magnetic poles of the magnets have the same polarity and the same magnetic force, and the recess 46A having an opening 46B which is set toward opposite side of the above sliders 24A, 24B; and a fixed coil 18, disposed between the two groups of movable magnets 16 in the magnetic yoke 46.
