To provide a linear motor with improved reliability.
Positioning protrusions 41a, 41c protruding in a direction generally perpendicular to the direction of the elongation of a first magnet group 48 and a second magnet group 49, are formed in a base yoke 41 of the linear motor 8. Tip faces 41b, 41d of the protrusions 41a, 41c protrude out of the outer surface of a side yoke. When the base yoke 41 and the tip faces 41b, 41d of the protrusions 41a, 41c are made to butt against the wall surface of a yoke storage unit 33, a first side yoke 42 and a second side yoke 43 are made to be in contactless state against the yoke storage unit 33. Thereby, the increase of an error between the movement direction on the design of a coil 50c and the direction of the Lorentz force acting on the coil 50c is suppressed, so that the smooth movement of the coil 50c is secured and the reliability of the linear motor 8 is improved.
