Abstract:
PURPOSE: To perform high-resolution conversion less influenced by artifacts entering a signal because of ununiformity of a magnetic field and an electric field in an ion trapping cell. CONSTITUTION: A gas sample for mass spectroscopic analysis is introduced into an ion resonance cell 16 in a vacuum mass 12. An electron beam 32 passes through the cell and is gas-ionized. A magnetic field B and a static electric field are applied in a first direction in the cell and a second direction at a right angle with respect to the first direction. Combination action of the magnetic field and the static electric field closes an ion and makes the ion track movement. An AC electric field is generated in the cell, and an ion having a mass-to-charge ratio in a specified range is excited. A time domain signal caused by the excited ion is detected and digitized. A digital sample of the time domain electric signal is converted into frequency domain data by linearity prediction using a linear minimum multiplication procedure. The resultant frequency domain data includes information concerning a relative number of masses and name types of different ions existing in the cell.
