Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a method for treating the surface with a lipase in order to form an enzyme-surface complex and enhance the oil stain detergency of the surface subjected to the treatment.
CONSTITUTION: One example of such treated surface is a fiber with a lipase sorbed onto the surface. A preferred sorbed lipase is isolable from bacteria of the genus Pseudomonas or their clones. The treated fibers have high hydrolytic activity for oil stains and perhydrolytic activity for the oil stains, have altered surface wettability and prevent oil and hydrolysis by-product redeposition in the presence of aqueous solutions. The sorbed lipase is resistant to removal during fiber laundering and retains substantial hydrolytic activity even with exposure to drying at elevated temperatures. The hydrolytic activity of the lipase-fabric complex persists even during storage or wear. Hydrolysis by- products are removable during the laundering at a basic pH or in the presence of a surfactant.
