Abstract:
To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent that gives a liquid crystal alignment layer showing a high pretilt angle and having preferable alignment uniformity and excellent image persistence characteristics.
The liquid crystal aligning agent includes a polymer having an amic acid repeating unit, a unit of formula (I-2) and its imidized repeating unit, wherein the proportion of the amic acid repeating unit is 60 to 90 mol% with respect to the total of the amic acid repeating unit and the imidized repeating unit, and the imidized repeating unit contains a specified repeating unit such as formula (A) in the range of 5 to 100 mol%.
