Abstract:

To provide a liquid crystal compatible nanorod capable of providing a wide-range frequency dependency to electro-optical response and comprising an economical, high-speed, wide-range frequency dependency by switching the frequency of an applied electric field, and to provide a method for producing the same, a nanorod-dope liquid crystal medium, and a liquid crystal element.

The liquid crystal compatible nanorod comprises a nucleus 2 which is composed of one or more nanorods and has a ratio of the minor axis to the major axis of 1:x (x>1) and, surrounding the nucleus, a protective layer 5 composed of liquid crystal compatible molecules 3 and 4 coupled to the nucleus.
