Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a quest-host type liquid crystal composition in which the dielectric anisotropy of the host liquid crystal is negative and which has excellent contrast, a long lifetime and excellent low-temperature stability by mixing an Nn-type liquid crystal material with specified dichroic colors.
CONSTITUTION: This composition comprises an Nn-type liquid crystal material and at least one azo dichroic color of formula I (wherein R1 is hydrogen, alkyl or the like; R2 is alkyl, alkoxyalkyl or the like; and R3 to R5 are each hydrogen, methyl or the like), at least one azo dichroic color of formula II (wherein R6 and R7 are each hydrogen, alkyl or the like), at least one azo color of formula III (wherein R8 is hydrogen, alkyl or the like; R9 and R10 are each alkyl, alkoxyl or the like; and R11 to R13 are each hydrogen, methyl or the like) and at least one anthraquinone dichroic color of formula IV (wherein R16 is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxyl or the like).
