To obtain an excellent color purity by dissolving a dichroic colorant represented by a specific formula in a fluorine-base liq. crystal material to form a yellow-, magenta-, or cyan-colored guest-host liq. crystal compsn.
A yellow-, magenta-, or cyan-colored heat-resistant guest-host liq. crystal compsn. is prepd. by dissolving about 0.5-5wt.% at least one dichroic colorant selected from among ones represented by formulas I to IV (wherein Y1 and Y2 are each a group represented by formula II; R1 is H, a 1-12C alkyl, etc.; R2 and R3 are each a 1-12C alkyl, a 1-12C alkoxy, etc.; X1 is O or S; and R4 is a 1-12C alkyl, a 2-12C alkoxyalkyl, etc.), about 0.5-5wt.% at least one dichroic colorant selected from among ones represented by formulas V to VIII (wherein X2 is H, a halogen, a 1-12C alkyl, a 1-12C alkoxy, etc.), or about 0.5-5wt.% at least one dichroic colorant selected from among ones represented by formula IX (wherein R11 and R12 are each H, a halogen, a 1-12C alkoxy, etc.) in a fluorine-base liq. crystal material. The compsn. is sandwiched between a pair of transparent electrodes to give a liq. crystal display element.
