Abstract:

To inhibit the photoisomerization of a compound expressed by the formula (a), which is a difluorostilbene derivative, to provide a composition including the compound expressed by the formula (a) and a triplet quencher, to provide, among compounds expressed by the formula (a), a novel difluorostilbene derivative unlikely to entail photoisomerization, and to provide a liquid crystal electro-optic element using the liquid crystal composition.

A composition including a compound expressed by the formula (a) and a triplet quencher: R^a1-(A¹)n^a1-Z¹-Ph¹-CF=CF-Ph²-Z²-(A²)n^a2-R^a2(a).
