Abstract:

To provide a liquid crystal composition which can be driven at a low voltage and can use a universal cheap ICs, and a reflecting liquid crystal display.

The liquid crystal composition is a chiral nematic liquid crystal composition which comprises a nematic liquid crystal mixture and a chiral material, exhibits a cholesteric phase at room temperature, and reflects selectively a light of a specific wavelength, wherein the chiral material contained has an anisotropy of dielectric constant of 12-60, a chiral nematic liquid crystal composition which has an increased anisotropy of dielectric constant by incorporating the chiral material, or a chiral nematic liquid crystal composition wherein the anisotropy of dielectric constant of the chiral material is larger than that of the nematic liquid crystal mixture. The chiral nematic liquid crystal composition is held between transparent base plates to constitute a liquid crystal cell, which is led to a reflecting liquid crystal display of a three-layer laminated structure which displays full color.
