Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound containing a specific methogen group, a siloxane chain and a terminal alkyl chain and free from diolefin structure, easily synthesizable at a low cost, exhibiting smectic C phase or chiral smectic C phase stable in a wide temperature range including room temperature and usable as a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition.
CONSTITUTION: This compound is expressed by formula I (R1 is a 1-20C saturated alkyl; R2 and R2 are each a 1-6C saturated alkyl; (x) is l-5; (y) us 3-20; R4 is a 1-10C saturated alkyl). It is produced e.g. by the hydrosilylation reaction of a siloxane compound of formula II with an olefin compound of formula III in a solvent (e.g. toluene) in the presence of a platinum catalyst such as bis(divinyltetramethyldisiloxane) platinum(O) complex at 60-100°C for 1-30hr.
