USE: A liquid crystal compound having broad mesomorphic range and wide application range, and applicable even to a device utilizing namatic phase. Since the compound is stable to temperature variation and has low viscosity, it affords a device having long life and rapid response.

PROCESS: The exemplified compound of formula II can be prepared by dissolving p,p'-azoxyphenol in purified pyridine completely, cooling the solution at about -20°C, adding n-caproyl chloride slowly dropwise, raising the temperature under stirring slowly after the completion of the addition of the acid chloride, and reacting at room temperature for 24hr.
