To provide a liquid crystal-containing composition which realizes high CR (contrast) at low temperatures and to provide a liquid crystal display element using the same.

A liquid crystal-containing composition 4 comprises, for example, as shown in the drawing, a cholesteric liquid crystal 2, and a microcapsule 3, which has, encapsulated therein, the cholesteric liquid crystal 2. The microcapsule 3 contains a wall material component consisting of at least one type selected from polyurethane and polyurea, wherein the wall material component is composed of an isocyanurate having a cyclo-ring structure and other isocyanurates.
