Abstract:
PURPOSE:To attain low voltage driving, the high contrast of an image, the definiteness of threshold value voltage, time divided driving and large-sized display by forming transparent polymeric material by the polymerization of a polymeric composition containing silicone (meta) acrylate. CONSTITUTION:A light modulating layer formed of crystal liquid material and transparent polymeric material is interposed between two bases, and the transparent polymeric material is formed by polymerizing a polymeric composition containing a silicone (meta) acrylate derivative. Because of the high ratio of the liquid crystal material occupying in the light modulating layer so as to form a continuous phase, transparency at the time of applying voltage is high. Also because of the large light scattering degree, the thickness of the light modulating layer can be made thin, and this makes the transparency at the time of voltage application even higher. This constitution results in attaining low voltage driving, the high contrast of an image, the definiteness of threshold value voltage, time divided driving, and large-sized display.
